Having the Talent and No Desire
Why is it that most of the athletes that have the talent do not have the desire, but end up getting far. At the same time, athletes that have all the want and desire in the world end up falling short of their dreams due to insufficient funding or injuries. It just does not seem fair to see those who do not wish to be where they are succeeding, while those who are willing to risk everything sitting at the bottom wondering where they went wrong. Too many talented athletes don't live up to expectations for various reasons, whether its drugs, alcohol, or abuse charges, but they are still given a chance and make the decision not to follow through with chance they have been given. Meanwhile, an athlete that would never have gotten into that type of trouble is sitting at home moving on to a profession in the business world instead of following their dreams in the sports world. It's just funny how things have way of working out even if they really don't make much sense.

i couldnt have said it better myself. i always wonder what if i did this or didnt do that or if this wouldnt have happened, maybe life would have been different somehow. all i know is that i am who i am because of things that have happened to me, but thats only speaking for myself.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Steph. People take things for grnated too often. They have so much, but they continue to abuse it. Some athletes will wait for years on the bench, practicing hard, and doing everything they can, while more skilled athletes show up late and turn lazy and do stupid things off the field.
ReplyDeleteThis just eats me up inside; besides I have been in this position not only running cross-country and track, but also in ice-skating. The figure skating side was where I noticed these occurrences even more. There were certain girls that just did not want to be on the ice, while others were struggling to pay for the little time they were able to just get to the ice rink. Also, when it came down to tie-breakers it was always frustrating because the skaters who did not really want to advance on were the ones doing so. At the same time, there were certain girls that may have made numerous mistakes both technically and in their presentation scores, but those were the same girls who placed higher then someone who skated a clean program. None of it made sense. The girls that would be skating every moment they were on the ice and giving it their all, never had the edge over the girls that just had skill. Now unfortunately, the girls who had just skill are mostly all done completely and have given up. They took all those opportunities away from the girls who truely deserved it. At the same time though, most of the skaters that had all the desire in the world to compete have been injured, faced with other adversities, or just got so frustrated with the judging system that they have since moved on and set their sights on other aspirations. Sometimes life just does not seem fair.
